Privacy Policy

Scope of this policy

This policy describes how SH Info, publisher of the review content at sleephearty.com, handles personal information received from readers of the site. The policy is designed to comply with the Australian Privacy Principles set out in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). It applies to information collected through the website itself, through emails sent to [email protected], and through any postal correspondence sent to the editorial desk. It does not cover how any third-party operator, studio, payment processor or advertiser handles personal information in their own systems; those parties operate under their own privacy policies and are outside SH Info's control.

What personal information SH Info collects

The site itself is designed to collect as little personal information as reasonably practical. No user accounts are offered, no login is required and no forms request personal information beyond what is necessary to reply to editorial correspondence. Where a reader sends an email to the editorial desk, the personal information collected is the reader's email address, name if provided in the message, and any additional information the reader chooses to include. Where a reader visits the site itself, server logs typically retain a truncated IP address, a user-agent string identifying the browser and operating system, and the requested page URL for a limited retention period.

Why SH Info collects that information

Editorial correspondence information is retained only to allow a reply and, where the correspondence contains a factual correction, to log the source of the correction against the amended draft. Server-log information is retained for standard security purposes — identifying automated abuse of the site, diagnosing outages and tuning content delivery. No personal information is used for advertising personalisation on the site because SH Info does not run personalised advertising. The site does not build user profiles, does not track readers across other sites and does not sell personal information to any third party.

How SH Info stores personal information

Editorial correspondence is stored in a standard email inbox operated by a mainstream Australian or Australia-adjacent email service provider. Server logs are stored on the hosting provider's infrastructure under standard commercial retention terms. Both stores use industry-standard access controls — encryption of stored data, encrypted transport in transit, credential rotation on the editorial side and audit logging on the infrastructure side. No claim of perfect security is made because no online service can offer that guarantee; reasonable steps are taken and no more should be inferred.

Sharing and cross-border transfer

SH Info does not share personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. The site does not participate in ad-network syndication and does not embed third-party tracking pixels for behavioural profiling. The narrow exceptions to non-sharing are: the hosting provider (which necessarily processes server logs to deliver pages), the email service provider (which necessarily processes editorial correspondence to deliver messages) and any legal authority that issues a lawful demand for information. Some of those service providers may store data outside Australia; where that happens, the transfer is done under contracts that require handling consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.

Cookies

SH Info uses only essential cookies necessary for the site to function. The site does not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies, personalisation cookies or third-party tracking cookies. See the cookies policy for the specific list of essential cookies in use and their retention terms.

Right of access and correction

Under the Australian Privacy Principles, a reader has the right to request access to personal information SH Info holds about that reader and to request correction of any information that is inaccurate. Requests can be sent to the editorial desk at [email protected]. SH Info will respond to reasonable requests within a reasonable timeframe. Where a request cannot be actioned in full — for example, because the information has been deleted under retention limits, or because release would breach another person's privacy — the reader will be told which parts of the request cannot be actioned and why.

Retention of personal information

Editorial correspondence is retained for as long as reasonably necessary to complete the correspondence and log any resulting content amendments; correspondence not attached to a content change is typically deleted within twelve months. Server logs are retained for a shorter period, typically thirty to ninety days, before rotation. When information is no longer needed, it is deleted or de-identified using standard operational procedures.

Complaints and enquiries

Readers who believe their personal information has been mishandled can contact the editorial desk in the first instance at [email protected]. If the complaint cannot be resolved directly, readers have the right to escalate to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). The OAIC publishes its complaint process on its own website; the office handles complaints about privacy breaches, refusal-of-access disputes and correction disputes among other matters.

Changes to this policy

SH Info may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in operational practice or in the applicable law. The policy is dated at the top of the page; readers should check the date to see whether the current version has changed since their last visit. Substantive changes affecting how personal information is handled will be noted in a summary at the top of the page for a reasonable period after publication.
